This new EP (more a single, really) showcases Demonical's new singer with a brand-new song, "Into Victory" and a cover of Ramones' "Somebody Put Something in My Drink." I haven't heard much from this band, but the original track is a catchy, heavy and melodic death metal song that stuck in my head right away. The vocals are growly but decipherable without much effort, just aggressive enough without going over the top. With a name like Demonical, I was expecting something more brutal and dark, but this is quite accessible—at least as far as death metal is concerned. The cover is pretty good. They didn't massacre the original like some extreme metal bands sometimes do, and the music is heavier and, of course, more metallic, yet quite faithful to the original; if you know the Ramones song, you'll recognize it. Based on the title track alone, I'm looking forward to the next album. |
