This band has been around for like 10 years, but I have never heard of them before. Hard to believe a band this good could form—let alone keep going this long—in the wasteland of Greensboro, North Carolina, with which I have some personal experience, so I can tell you it is not great. But Undrask are toughing it out, and not only playing a somewhat played-out subgenre, but doing it really well. Melodeath's heyday ended before this band even formed, but there is nothing stale about the sound of this. You get sharp, crunchy, hooky riffing that recalls Dark Tranquility, Suidakra, and even Solar Dawn (for the ten people who remember Solar Dawn). The production is startlingly good for a self-produced album, the playing is a definite cut above, and even if the vocals are just adequate, they don't interfere with the music at hand. A band to watch for. |
