Cosmic Jaguar is a project started by a few members of Ukrainian tech thrashers Bestial Invasion who are obsessed with Aztec history and culture. You'd expect the project to be highly technical and savage, and that's exactly what you get with tight musicianship and complex songwriting that's reminiscent of Cynic and Atheist with some Schuldiner-esque riffs thrown in for extra heaviness and some South American folk instruments to sell the vibe of bloody antiquity. The vocals of Sergio Lunático (Metal Priest in Bestial Invasion) are a bit one-dimensional compared to the rest of the music, but they get the job done, and the female vocals from guest singer Chimalma inject even more of a South American folk vibe to the proceedings. Bottom line, if you ever wanted Bestial Invasion to get a bit more brutal while singing about the Aztecs, then these metal jaguars' promising debut is what you've been waiting for. Recommended. |
