Spain's Dreamyth formed in 2020 and, after a couple of singles, released their debut album, Aletheia, in April 2023. They play symphonic power metal with male and female vocalists sharing the microphone, both staying clean for the most part. The blueprint for this kind of album has been around for many years and Dreamyth sticks close to it and while it certainly sounds familiar in a lot of places, the performances are excellent, and the songwriting is a cut or two above average. All the elements you want and expect are here; fantasy-based lyrics, speedy numbers with instantly catchy choruses ("Aletheia"), neoclassical guitar work, sweeping keys, and choruses of voices ("Firelove"). When Andrea Carrero is singing lead, her delivery lends a kind of Area 51 vibe as she sounds a little like Kate Cain, whereas the male vocals are courtesy of Ralf Scheepers and Herbie Langhans. Quite a score for Dreamyth to get those gentlemen to participate. When they are singing, Dreamyth reminds me of Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire. I don't think I need to say much more other than Aletheia is far from adventurous but is a well-done album of (mostly) female-fronted power metal. If that's your thing, it's a good bet you'll find a lot to like from Dreamyth. |
