I have been following this band ever since their self-titled EP popped out of my mailbox over fifteen fucking years ago. Just one guy from the lineup remains from those days, and the band's roster has changed repeatedly over the years. Their last disc—Lux Infera—was ten years ago but also their best work, so I was hopeful this would continue in a similar vein. This is not as good as the last album, but it's nowhere near down in dullsville with stuff like Exalted Spectres. The truth is this is a perfectly adequate Black Metal album, but it's no better than that, with no surprises at all. You get tremolo riffing, a decent production, standard vocals, and songwriting that has no surprises or anything at all to keep your attention. It's not bad, but it is relentlessly generic. |
