This is a one-man band, and it looks like a lot of the past output has been much more in the Pagan Black Metal vein, but this is an album all about Warhammer 40K, and as such it is appropriate that the major stylistic guide here is Bolt Thrower. Chugging downtuned riffs and pummeling drums make for that dark, warlike sound we all know, and the fact that this is entirely instrumental means there are no vocals to pull this toward a more Black Metal sound, if that was even the intention. The production could be heavier, though I do like the guitar sound. The drums sound a little artificial, but for a sci-fi concept that actually works for me. I am going to have to hunt down some more of this guy's stuff. |
