Hot off the heels of their last EP, Infernal Tyrant are back with their latest EP, Spring, a scant few months later. That kind of productivity either means dedication to the craft or shitting out low-effort garbage with little room for nuance, but Mike has once again proven that he cares about the music he makes and works hard to refine it. This is immediately evident with the awesome opener "Collision with Reality," whose top-notch lead work, varied songwriting, and killer solo work easily make it the band's best song to date. In fact, I'd dare say every song on here is better than previous attempts, here introducing more variety to the songwriting and scaling the more technical aspects back just a little bit to grant the compositions the required breathing room to do that, like with the punchy and straightforward "Marked for Death," but closing track "Maze of Despair" still shows a band working to forge their own identity via pummeling riffs that seamlessly lead to a piano driven ending section complemented with moody lead work. The vocals are still a rough grunt that gets the job done and syncopate with the music nicely enough, and while the clean vocals still aren't great, they're much better here thanks to more confident delivery and better recording quality on them. I was expecting this to be good, but I'm pleasantly surprised how confident a step forward Spring is for the project, and I'm eager to see what they do next.
