Some thrashing power metal out of Germany here. It has that heavy/power metal foundation, and the thrash elements give this a much harder and heavier edge while not taking away a good sense of melody. There are some Judas Priest and solo Halford leanings that can be heard here in there, the heavier yet catchy stuff that tends to get crowds going crazy at live shows. The clean vocals go from a low, dark tone all the way to high-pitched, singalong-inducing soaring vocals with lines that get stuck in your head. Going back to the music, there are quite a few cool, catchy solos that call for some air-guitar action. I like how Wolfen have balanced the aggressiveness of thrash with the melody and catchiness power of heavy and power metal and the songs are varied enough to keep your attention throughout. Some of it comes off a bit weird or even generic at times, but it doesn't get boring despite flirting with the 1-hour mark. |
