Damn this is heavy. Eternal Rot is a band playing death metal, but they play it slow, doomy slow, and it's crushingly heavy. Those slow riffs instantly stick in your head and get the head banging slowly but surely. There's a bit of a '70s Black Sabbath vibe here, so their influences go way back, and I can't quite think of another death metal band this reminds me of (not that I've heard them all, mind you). The slow, growled vocals come off sounding more like some mythic animal straight from the depths of hell and they make the music sound even heavier and darker than it already is. It's beyond nightmarish and it's chilling all the way through. Eternal Rot have really nailed this mix of very old-school occultish heavy metal, doom and death metal. Tall order for the next album to outdo this. |
