This is a debut album of very direct, primitive Death Metal that I actually like a lot. They get the guitar sound right, with a low-end, malevolent tone, and the riffs just have a great, evil sound to them all the way from the opening to the very last. You will hear more melody and atmosphere in this than you would expect, as so many Death Metal bands just don't bother with atmosphere at all. There's nothing technical here, and the drumming is probably a weak point on this, but it gets the job done. The vocals are a nice hollow gargle that isn't mixed too upfront. There's definite Entombed/Dismember DNA in this, and it's not reinventing the wheel, but the way this hammers and carves away, I don't really care that much that it's been done before. |
