With a name like Duivel ("Devil" in Dutch), there's no secret as to what this band sings about. Heiligschennis is just 20 minutes long, but it's packed with cold, evil-sounding, satanic black metal. The vocals, provided by a number of guest vocalists, are all very effective twisted hellish screams that sound just as insane as the razor-sharp black metal on offer here. It's largely raw and incisive, though sometimes getting more refined and melodic and the keyboards are discreet and not overdone, but you can't miss them and I'm surprised that they don't deter from the savagery of most of the songs, adding a little creepiness. Cool stuff that makes me want to check out their past releases. |
