Alicia Cordisco has had something of a creative renaissance since her departure from Judicator. Since that time, she's been juggling three different bands working in wildly different styles of metal, all of which have been releasing quality material, and there is no sign that she is slowing down any time soon. The latest release in that renaissance is the self-titled third album of her oldest solo project, er, Project: Roenwolfe, and it serves as more proof that she's starting to reach her creative stride.

Much like the previous album, the base of Project: Roenwolfe is shredding, slightly technical power metal, only here the riffs are more thrashy in nature and the songwriting a bit more direct and focused. This is perfectly evident on the blazing opener "Boundless," whose shredding riffs and soaring chorus put it as one of the best songs from this project and from Alicia in general. Other more straightforward tracks like "Saturnus Augmentum" and the searing closing title track put their more direct nature to good use by hooking the listener enough to demand repeat listens, which gives them the time needed to appreciate the greatness of denser tracks like "Kyomid" and the massive "Pearls Before Swine." The performances are tight and proficient as usual, and Patrick's vocals really steal the show with their power and charisma, but this is definitely a band where every member puts in a great deal of effort to make a propulsive and sometimes stirring sound the way only real veterans of the scene can. Yet another strong album from an underappreciated artist in their prime.
