My affection for Atmospheric Black Metal is well known around here, so when I see a one-man Norwegian project with a monochrome cover and song titles like “The Forest Draped Black,” I know I am going to have a good time. Kvad isn’t quite a one-man act, as there is also a drummer, so we are at least spared electronic beats, but otherwise this is just what you would expect from a band like this. The guitar sound is nicely raw, the songs are long and kind of mellow, and the production gives everything a nice hollow sound like it was recorded in a crypt. It’s not groundbreaking or anything, and there’s not a whole lot that stands out from the crowd, but it’s well done. | |||||||
