The opening of this made me think it was going to be too post for its own good, and it kind of is, even though it does pick up. This is obviously working some kind of depressive vibe, with a few nods to a Cascadian sound along the way, but one of the problems here is that this music isn't really enough of anything. It's kind of mellow, like Post-Metal, it's got tremolo riffs but they are not atonal enough, it's got melody but not anything really first-rate. It's trying to be sprawling and idiosyncratic, but it comes across as just kind of shapeless, and by the end you are wondering why it exists at all. |
