Well, I'll be damned. Usually one cannot really get the feel of a band through a 3-song EP, but this is as direct and to the point as it gets. Three songs, all under five minutes, of pure, unadulterated, creative and pummeling death metal goodness. Fresh from Minnesota, out of all places, this 5-piece has released a tasty and concise treat for those looking for something to mix up their regular playlists. Pounding, blasting drums, a thick bass, great production and fantastic guitar work are all on display here. The musicianship is evidently top-notch, which makes me wonder why the hell these guys haven't released a full-length yet. The songs themselves are mostly fast-paced and constitute an utter and absolute assault upon the senses right from the start. No gimmicks, no acoustic interludes, no progressive fidgeting, only fantastic and in-your-face death metal, which, surprisingly, changes constantly and manages to remain inventive and original without becoming self-indulgent. I must also give a shout-out to the vocalist, who alternates between a deep bellow and a high goblin-like shriek, à la Cattle Decapitation or Wombbath. If this EP is anything to go by, then we're in for something truly special once they finally get to that full release. Hopefully they can live up to the promise. Highly recommended. |
