Another strong offering from Deitus, three years after Via Dolorosa. Irreversible is largely slow to mid-paced dark, melodic black metal that nonetheless speeds up in the right places, but it's really the atmosphere that shines throughout the album. The guitar work is again top notch, with some riffage reminding me of mid to late-80s thrash—the rawer, harsher kind that bordered on black and death metal. There's a good balance between in-your-face, aggressive songs and way more melodic, almost soothing ones, especially Voyeur which features female vocals and is slower and more akin to post-black, kind of an outlier that throws me off (in a good way) every time I listen to the album. Back to the atmosphere, it's dark and menacing, very ominous, almost making you keep looking over your shoulder. The music isn't particularly raw, quite clean in fact, but that doesn't make it any less effective. Via Dolorosa had set the bar high, and Deitus have delivered the goods with this new album.
