Cool name that pretty much tells anyone that this is death metal, despite the Manowaresque album name. :) Gutted Christ aren't reinventing the wheel here, playing some blackened death metal on the brutal side but overly so, much closer to Cannibal Corpse than the wall-of-noise brutal bands that have been popping up for many years. Some songs are surprisingly slow and melodic, with harsh but decipherable vocals—a chunk of "Weeping Savior" wouldn't sound out of place on some straight-out black metal albums. Some of the songs sound disjointed and I find that too distracting most of the time, though I can give them points for trying something else and not sounding repetitive. There are some good ideas here, but they need to figure out what they're going for because this feels more like a bunch of random songs than an album. |
