Bloodlines is the seventh album by Denmark's Pyramaze, a band that's been around for over 20 years now. What you can safely infer from a career that long is that the playing is tight and the sound very good as the band works through the songs. Like their previous album, 2020's Epitaph, there's a cinematic quality to the songs on Bloodlines, capped off by the instrumental closer "Wolves of the Sea," which could easily work on a sea epic film score, but they've nudged the overall tenor of the songwriting away from some of the commerciality on Epitaph and back toward a more metal direction. That's good, but there's still a wide streak of modern metal present, particularly in some of the vocal lines ("Stop the Bleeding," for example) which are on the screamy side. It isn't quite so egregious on Bloodlines, but it is still there and still somewhat unpleasant. On the other hand, if you're willing to dig a little, tracks like "Fortress" are perfectly solid modern power metal tunes. At this stage of their long career, Pyramaze are aiming for fans that like grandiose, cinematic music that's also heavy, something of a niche group, so contemporary Kamelot and Nightwish jump to mind. Bloodlines is better than its predecessor, but not by much so I don't think its appeal is much broader.
