There are no less than 32 bands, past and present, with the name Prophecy listed at Metal Archives. This one hails from Denmark and plays '80s-style thrash on their debut, Twisted Reality. Originally released at the end of 2018, it apparently didn't get much promotion from the small label that put it out (Metal Domination Records) and it's getting a fresh push in 2023. I'm going to give you pretty much everything you need to know about these guys by listing the band shirts they are wearing in their promo photo; Megadeth, Metallica, Kreator, and Testament. The riffing is sharp and tight, much like you would expect from US bands from the Bay Area, while the vocals are gravelly, guttural shouts that are more akin to the European scene from back in the day. It is a perfectly serviceable album that should get heads banging and feet tapping while it is on, but the songs are generic and in a lot of cases ("Silent Oppressor," "Fatal Beliefs") rather repetitive. Prophecy's mix of American Riffs and European vocals reminds me mostly of Germany's Paradox, though a step or two below them in quality. When you factor in that Paradox is more of a second-tier act, that gives you additional insight into what you can expect from Twisted Reality. It is fine, but in a vast ocean of similar-sounding bands does little to stand out. |
