Something of a sparse catalog from this band out of Providence, Rhode Island, with just a handful of demos leading up to their 2023 EP, Cold, Dead Hands, and that's in 20 years in existence. Probably some lame reason like needing to make a living to support families or something. I kid, more power to the musicians in I, Destroyer for keeping the flame burning. What we have here is 26+ minutes of bestial black/death/thrash/metal fire and brimstone that cares about one thing and one thing only, pounding heavy metal. They cover some different ground like the proto-black metal bashing on "Prophecies of Final War" and "Total Vengeance" and the thrash riffing on "Speed Kills" with everything based on chugging, bruising heavy metal riffs. The vocals are a combo of spiteful rasps and evil growls that I find hard to decipher, though Michel seems to have more success, so he's clearly got a more discerning ear. I, Destroyer aren't doing anything unusual, but they will kick your head in if you stray too close to the speakers so consider yourself warned. |
