On first listen this sounded pretty generic, but it grows on you. This is the first full-length from Canadian band Sacrenoir, and while it is definitely highly orthodox Black Metal of the same general stripe as fellow Canadians like Megiddo or Bloodaxe, this has a lot of good melodies and genuinely good songwriting buried in the intentionally murky mix. Just when it seems like they are just blasting along, something will jump out and get my attention, or the song will take a turn and suddenly do something new. On the surface this seemed like standard Black Metal, but closer examination really opened it out.
