Can't believe it's been four years already since Night of Whisphering Souls. The Ritual sees Tryglav staying the course and producing solid melodic black metal, but this time I'd say the music is not quite as raw and bets the bank more on speed and melody. The album hits the ground running and doesn't let up until the end. The hints of straightforward heavy metal can still be found on this one; basically the same basic ingredients as the debut are still here. I've found the songs here catchier and more accessible than on the debut and overall it's more "fun" black metal as it's packed with headbangable and air-instrument-inducing material, but it's still dark and aggressive music. Personally, I prefer the debut over this, but if I'm in the mood for something that rocks more, The Ritual is my pick. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
