This is an interesting, weird little project by a woman who has gone by various names (formerly porn performer Rachel Rotten, now with the rather grandiose stage name of Rachel Bloodspell Moongoddess) and has been a session player for bands like Cardinal Wyrm and Xasthur. Finally striking out as a solo act, she comes up with this self-titled EP/ "mini-album." This is definitely more mellow than feral, but I like the very underground feel of it. The murky guitars, the hollow echo of the recording job, the sparse vocals that are almost entirely clean sung/intoned. It has a kind of Beherit vibe to it, coming across as very DIY and very kvlt. It's a short recording, at just over 17 minutes, and it's not going to blow your doors off, but it's a cool little taste of gothy, doomy music with a very Black Metal kind of stripped-down ethos. |
