Review

The fourth and final Ostrogoth reissue from High Roller is their third full-length album, 1987's Feelings of Fury. As of this review, it is also their last album, though the band has apparently been active for quite a few years after a long hiatus. If the last album, Too Hot, saw the band attempt to appeal to a wider audience with more commercial songwriting, Feelings of Fury reels it back in. A move from Mausoleum Records to what was apparently the band's own label, Ultraprime, with perhaps less label pressure may have been a factor. This is definitely the band's best-sounding album with a clear and warm production, yet still retaining the NWOBHM charm mostly via echo on the vocals. Basically, the traditional metal of the EP and first album are what you get on Feelings of Fury, with bands like Tokyo Blade ("Samurai") and Loudness ("What the Hell Is Going On?") being noticeable influences. This is a rough and ready album, full of chugging riffs and bashing drums. It is fun enough while on, but as I've said before, Ostrogoth was always a second-tier band in terms of songwriting and nothing on Feelings of Fury changes that, but it's a nice trip down memory lane. As with all the High Roller releases, if you grew up with Ostrogoth and have a fondness for their music, this is a good opportunity to get a nice sounding copy with a production that will sound good on modern playback devices, be it vinyl, cassette, or digital.
