Another Eleine album, and it is just as professional, glossy, and rote as their past efforts. This is a band that suffers from not really being about anything, and so it seems to have little reason to exist except for frontwoman Madeleine Liljestam to promote herself. In Sweden this kind of thing can get more mainstream traction, so maybe they are angling for a hit single, but none of these really have enough legs for that. I expect goth bands to trade in some of their metallic sound for really catchy choruses, but the ones here are strictly B-grade, and nothing sticks after the album is over. This is more like pop music for people who think they are too badass to listen to Evanescence. |
