Review

Very cool old-school heavy metal from this French band, very much in the vein of mid-80s heavy metal, though I'd say a bit heavier and faster and, of course, sporting a modern production. Musically there's a bit of an early Iron Maiden influence that can be heard throughout, and they do their own thing with that. It's fast, it rocks, there are plenty of solos and riffs that are absolutely infectious and just call for repeat plays. The female singer has a great voice, very high-pitched, and it took me a while to get used to the vocals being so overwhelming in the mix. That reminded me a little bit of the last Category VI album; nothing wrong with the vocals, but burying the music a little bit. You guessed it, there's nothing new on Ronde de nuit (I assume they mean it in the sense of "Night watch"), but Meutrières do the style very, very well and anyone into mid-80s heavy metal should get a kick out of this.
