At this point there are enough one-man bands obsessed with Summoning and Tolkien to almost qualify as a separate subgenre. This is the 24th full-length sole bandmember Eöl has put out in 25 years of existence, and if you are a fan of bands like Battle Dagorath, Caladan Brood, Druadan Forest, or Evilfeast, then you probably already know this project well. If you don't then this is one of the good ones, with a much heavier and more aggressive style than the sometimes too-mellow bands in this style. The epic feel is imparted with big songs and big arrangements, rather than relying on keys to evoke movie soundtracks and hoping for the best. Elffor always come off as far more about Black Metal than you would expect, and it makes this stand out from the more ambient bands this kind of thing often attracts. With such a huge back catalog to dig into, you can't go wrong with this guy. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
