This Atonement (there are several listed at Metal Archives) is a new band, formed in 2020, out of Sweden that is joining the throng of black/thrash revival bands. Sadistic Invaders is their debut album and it is a roaring speed fest of buzzsaw guitars playing old-school riffs with Show No Mercy/Kill ‘Em All pedigrees. The vocals are an evil, second-wave croak that are essentially unintelligible but suit the music well. Clearly, Atonement is betting it all on speed, and it is unrelenting for sure, but the songs blend together with almost nothing separating one from the next. It is aggressively generic black/thrash that is OK when it is spinning and, if you like black/thrash, you won’t hate it, but you can definitely find more interesting in the genre out there. |
