Second album for one-man outfit Wooden Throne, who shows a good bit of growth on this release. I thought the debut was kind of bland, but this one has more flavor. This is still very influenced by Summoning, but there is a bit of a Thy Serpent vibe creeping in here as well, and the melodies are stronger this time out. This is very mellow music, with nothing aggressive or evil-sounding about it, but sometimes that’s what you are in the mood for. I like the keyboards giving a kind of Evilfeast feel to it, I like the slightly murky production that keeps this from sounding too accessible. In the same vein as the first album, but everything is improved. |
