Blacksheep reportedly play death ‘n’ roll, but I’d say it’s more death/thrash ‘n’ roll as there’s a healthy dose of thrash in their sound. Either way, this is good stuff. I’d say it’s not as " ‘n’ roll" as some bands playing the subgenre, but it’s there. The vocals are a bit of an acquired taste. They’re borderline clean (by that I mean they’re easily decipherable) but harsh and kind of barked and it took me several listens before I got used to them. Maybe a bit too much for the music that has more melodic overtones, so it’s a bit of an odd pairing. Overall, this is rather heavy and sometimes quite punchy and there are good headbangable moments to be found. Some parts are more melodic and remind me of some melodic death metal circa the year 2000 and that stuff feels a bit more melancholic. I prefer the more in-your-face rocking songs, but at least the album doesn’t sound all the same. Worth a listen. |
