There is starting to be a genuine Black Metal scene in Ireland, or at least enough bands to talk about. This is the debut for Belial’s Throne—an Irish band founded by a Polish expat, but definitely part of the overall scene. This is generally slower and more melodic Black Metal, with occasional bursts of speed, but I have to say the slower parts sound much more distinct than the blur of tremolo that makes up the faster parts. This has a very early-aughts sound, like Berserk or Amduscias, with more mood than aggression. It’s fine while it’s on, but the songs don’t have a lot of identity, so it is more like one long song. There’s nothing this band does badly, but nothing they do especially well either. |
