Another album from the ever-reliable Taake. I can't say anything here surprised me, but I'm not disappointed either. Very melodic black metal with croaky vocals is the name of the game, but, for those not familiar with the band, don't let "melodic" fool you. While somewhat melancholic at times, the music can get pretty aggressive, as one would expect from the band. Things sometimes get a little trippy and kind of rocking, even catchy, like on the opening track which is a little all over the place and it got stuck in my head the first time I heard it. Some of this stuff reminds me of early to mid-90s Norwegian black metal, kind of Burzumesque but not as raw and, of course, without the insane vocals. Taake is a pretty consistent band, so fans are bound to like this one. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
