Odd to see a German band billed as "US Power Metal", though there is a definite similarity of sound, so I do hear a bit of bands like Steel Assassin, Jag Panzer, or even some Attacker. The riffs are heavy, with that definite US crunch and that edge of complexity in the compositions without being flashy. The riffs are solid and the songs maybe drag a bit, but they are interesting enough to get past that most of the time. The musicianship is good, and singer Dennis Marschallik has a good raw-edged wail. He could be a bit more distinctive, but he has plenty of power and range. Overall I like this, but the songs are not as distinct from each other as they could be, and I think this album needed to be tightened up a little bit, as there is a certain ponderousness to it that can't be wished away, but Ignition have the right idea. |
