Another band using Word War I as its thematic. While Ukraine's 1914's black/death metal is very doomy, Minenwerfer is full-on chaotic, blasting black metal. Lots of speed, insane screechy vocals and some nice razor-sharp guitar work form the backbone, but they also make good use of melodies when the song calls for it and there's also a war-ish destructive atmosphere that glues this all together. The vocals are really insane; don't even bother trying to decipher that stuff—except for the few spoken passages, it goes without saying. It's not one bit subtle, just music that destroys everything in its path. I had not heard them before and they have a few more albums under their belt, so I guess I've got some work ahead. |
