These guys show no sign of slowing down, do they? Two years after Violence Unimagined, they release another choice slab of heavy, fast, in-your-face death metal. Well, that's not exactly new coming from Cannibal Corpse, but it's nice to see that the band isn't showing signs of mellowing out. Put simply, if you liked the band before, you should like this and, if you didn't, you probably have your reasons and won't even give this a listen, which is perfectly fine as this likely won't change your opinion despite some really good death metal songs, no matter who they're from. Cannibal Corpse have a tested and proven recipe and they largely stick to it, just varying the spices. I really like the sharp guitar riffs on Chaos Horrific, they just sound like they're going to slice the speakers to pieces. The drumming is speedy as fuck and my neck hurts even when I'm not headbanging. Most of the time I don't find death metal all that catchy, but on this album they have a few songs that tend to stick around once they're over, and even some of the vocal lines are singalong-inducing (I wouldn't try that, personally). There isn't one dull or even slow moment on this one, it just blasts away from beginning to end, pounding the crap out of everything in its path. It's Cannibal Corpse incarnate. You know what to do.
