Entierro are kind of an odd band, as they started as a stoner band called Treebeard before switching names in 2013, then ex-Fates Warning guitarist Victor Arduini joined them in 2016 and they have been moving farther away from a stoner/Doom sound and into more Trad Metal territory. Their last outing was the 2021 EP El Camazotz, which had some good bits but was overall uninspired, but this is much better. Every part of the band has stepped up this time out. The songwriting is better, with a lot more texture and songwriting flair. The riffs are better, as is the recording job, and bassist/singer Chris Taylor is doing a lot more with his voice. He still sounds too much like Danzig for my taste, and he has a more rock-sounding voice, but he is putting a lot of character and personality into the vocals this time out, and it makes these songs so much more lively. Previously, there was not much worth listening to besides Arduini's leads, but this time Entierro have made a solid album that is worth hearing. |
