All the way from Italy comes Huronian, a blackened death metal band whose debut, As Cold as a Strange Sunset, was fairly well received when it came out. Their latest EP, Beyond Frozen Heights, is more of the same, combining the Scandinavian black metal of Dissection and Sacramentum with the '90s American death metal sound of acts such as At The Gates to create tracks that act like nothing has happened since the '90s. The songs are well played and contain enough hooks and variation to keep your attention, the production is crispy and old school in a way other new acts could learn from, and Daniele Lupidi's ghoulish grunts make him sound like a long-lost cousin to John Tardy, making this a solid appetizer for what I hope will soon be a further realized full-length in the future. Worth a listen.
