Review

Sixth album from Germany's Vendetta and a near carbon copy of their last couple of releases. This band has always had decent riffs, though they are generic, but the vocals and lyrics are once again subpar. The singer's monotone delivery from the past few releases is intact, with the added annoyance of being repetitive (starting right in with "Shoot to Kill," the album opener). The lyrics are not cringy, more on the dull and heavy-handed side, and the vocals lines do them no favors with their boring simplicity. Black as Coal isn't a horrible album, but it ranges from merely bland to mildly irritating, meaning it is nothing you need to seek out. Vendetta was a second-tier band back back in the '80s and they are, at best, a second-tier band today.
