Short and sweet second album for Cruel Fate. This is technically a self-titled album as "destin cruel" is French for "cruel fate." This is old-school death metal to the core, largely of the Swedish variety with a bit of the likes of Bolt Thrower battle death metal thrown in for seasoning, and on this album, sung in French. Every time I listen to it, I can't help but go, "crazy motherfuckers" with my jaw dropped. This album just rips. It has a clean production, but that doesn't take anything away from their raw sound and sheer heaviness. They've got that hollow sound that provides a freezing-cold, dark atmosphere that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. The vocals are a low, deep growl that's mostly decipherable enough and it blends in with the music perfectly. The music can get a little groovy, but in a good way, and the result is somewhat catchy. "Transit sidéral" has a war-march type of thing going that's almost hypnotic. Lots of headbanging moments here, fast or slow, good luck trying to remain still while listening. The album is on the short side and can leave you wanting for more, but I'll take that over an album with a few fillers any day of the week. Just quality death metal all the way through.
