This is a (mostly) one-man band from Russia, and when I heard they were Pagan Metal I expected something more mellow than this turned out to be. This is epic but aggressive stuff in the vein of mid-period Graveland or Enslaved, with a lot of heaviness going on as well as keys and a melodic depth to the compositions that makes them satisfying to listen to. These songs have a lot going on, and that keeps them interesting through twists and turns and interludes. This is a lot like a more pagan-themed iteration of In the Nightside Eclipse, and if you like this kind of thing, it will scratch that itch. |
