Black/thrash is one of those metal fusions that's pretty hard to mess up, and Finland's Beatrix are just more proof for that. Musically, this hits the same kind of notes that early Bathory, Nifelheim, and early Necrodeath struck with unrelenting violence back in the day, with the exception of "Torment of the Song", which actually reminds me of Jumalation's first demo with how it sounds closer to a traditional thrash song just dipping its toes into black metal. If that sounds like a dozen other bands you've heard, that's because it basically is, and I can't say Beatrix are particularly outstanding at what they do. They are fun to listen to, however, and sometimes that's all you're really looking for out of blackened thrash, so if that's what you're after, Claws of the Mantis will do you good. |
