Fresh from the bowels of Brazil comes the debut of Satanic Empire, who remind me more than a little of old Beherit in that I struggle to call them good, but fuck me they are entertaining regardless. This isn't as deranged as something like Drawing Down the Moon, as most of the songs are samey hellblasting crap with practically the same riffs over and over and drums that pound relentlessly, timing be damned, but then you get vocals that are drowning in effects and multitracked but mixed separately to sound like the growling rumblings of the devil himself that keeps you enraptured despite how they barely seem to acknowledge the music going on around them. Musically, I can't really defend any of it, but much like their ancient ancestors, they blaze past the need for things like competent songwriting and musical ideas by simply embracing the idea that black metal is evil noise first and foremost and music a distant second. Technically terrible, but highly entertaining.
