At first glance, I thought this was some heavy or power metal band, solely based on the artwork and band and album names. After all, there's a heavy metal band named Glacier and the artwork and album name don't exactly scream "death/thrash." With that said, Glacier Eater offer a pretty good death/thrash affair with some strong melodies, often going over the fence into more "fast heavy metal" territory than death/thrash. I found that to be somewhat refreshing, especially since Glacier Eater played their cards right and everything flows together very nicely despite the diversity. I'm really not fond of the screaming vocals that I find would fit a core-ish band better. At times they're tolerable, but other times they're downright annoying. Not the best fit for the music and it might be worth exploring something else in a future album. Putting that aside, Glacier Eater really have a knack for incorporating strong melodies into heavy, harsh music, and at the very least, Tempest is an interesting listen. |
