The title of this Norwegian band's second album, The Chronicles of Eunomia, Part II, should be all you need to know they play symphonic power metal with fantasy lyrics. I have to say, they do so as well as a symphonic power metal fan could want, with lots of sweeping melodies that create a high-fantasy atmosphere you can sink your teeth into. As good as Eunomia is, they don't stray outside the very narrow confines of the power metal genre and many of their influences are easily discernable, from the Edguy-style solo on "Clash of Steel" to the Riot vocal lines on "Carry On" to the Heavenly speed and high-pitched singing on "The Story Goes On." There is nothing wrong with any of these things, but you've likely heard them before if you follow power metal with any fervor, so The Chronicles of Eunomia, Part II is a well-crafted and well-executed album but isn't offering anything new or so amazing it carries you away. If you are into Ancient Bards, Celesty, Kaledon, and bands like that, Eunomia is sure to sound good to you. |
