Been a long time since I heard anything from this band, and not because they haven't been active, as this is their ninth album overall, and their fourth since Black Medicine—the last one I heard. This has always been a band that brought more adventurous songwriting to their basic Hungarian sound, and I find that has not changed. I do find that the broadness of the musical landscape has started to have a negative effect on the focus and feel of the music overall. The riffs are inventive, but they often seem to shift around without much rhyme or reason, and the songs lack cohesion. The guitar tone is also a far cry from the raw blast of works like Viziok, with a rather rounded-off tone and not a lot of bite to it. I think these songs needed to cook a little longer, and the production really needs to be turned up a notch, as this just sounds far too weak. I like this band, but this is not their best. |
