Antaeus sure came up with an attention-grabbing title for their second album back in 2000. Active since 1993, they still only have some four full-length albums in their discography (and a lot of splits, EPs and the likes, though not nearly as much as many black metal bands). Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan is somewhat short at 34 minutes, but it packs a lot of punch. These were still the heydays of French black metal and Antaeus were part of that. It's raw, fast, hateful, uncompromising black metal that doesn't give you much time to breathe throughout its short length. There are a few creepy moments that are likely a nod to the album's name, but overall this is just chaotic, true black metal like it was done back in the day. No fancy little experimentations or beautifying female vocals, just full-speed-ahead screeching black metal. A good dose of heavy, fast, raw, hateful black metal rooted in the Scandinavian sound, but with the legendary French touch added. |
