A quick EP from Imperialist, who started off kind of generic but then improved a lot on their second album, Zenith. I don't like screwing around with EPs unless there's some reason, but I was interested to see how they were doing, as I think this is a band with potential. This sounds a lot more blackened than this band has been in the past, with a more compressed production job and no downtuning, so the whole thing sounds rawer and less glossy. The riffs have more melody this time out, though it is atonal, unfriendly melody that works with the sci-fi/horror themes and imagery. This band always claimed inspiration from Dissection, but this is really the first time I can really hear that, and it takes their sound to another level. This EP sounds less polished, less safe, and is a whole lot more interesting than their past work. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
