Chamelion is a new entity from the Finnish metal scene that is made up of several veteran musicians. With bands like Kalmah, Dreamtale, Stargazery, and Burning Point peppering their collective resumes, you'd be safe in assuming the power metal featured on their debut, Legends & Lores, is top-notch. Being Finnish, the style is melodic and neo-classical with fantasy-based lyrics, not far removed from their Italian brethren if perhaps a little less flamboyant. As I hinted, the songwriting and performances are excellent, as is the sound which allows all the instruments and vocals space in the sonic tapestry Chamelion weave. For power metal fans, all the boxes are checked by Legends & Lores, from double-kick speed to acrobatic guitars and keys to sing along choruses to occasional folk-sounding elements. There isn't anything you haven't heard before, but with the combined experience of all involved, it is a case of being done well enough that a lack of innovation is in no way a hindrance to enjoying what Chamelion has on offer. Fans of Burning Point, Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, and bands of that ilk should find Legends & Lores plenty enjoyable.
