Horrorwish call themselves "horror metal" and that's certainly accurate from a lyrical point of view and also musically—to some extent. This is relatively accessible heavy metal that doesn't play too hard. At times I was reminded of King Diamond, though more in atmosphere and style than the way the songs sound, so don't go in expecting some copy. The vocals often reminded me of King when he uses a more storytelling type of voice. Overall, the album sounds creepy and mysterious, and even more so if you pay close attention to the lyrics. Horror fans would do well to dig deeper into that aspect of the songs as horror is what all the songs are about and there's some good stuff in there. There's nothing here that will blow your socks off or revolutionize metal, but Horrorwish did a good job writing actual "horror metal." Check it out if you're hankering for some creepiness. |
