Some old albums are classics, while others are just old. This one is a classic that still has teeth more than 30 years after it was released. Founded by the Brazilian Howard brothers, this album definitely has that '80s-era Brazilian DNA in it, with the savage Thrash riffing and the barking vocal delivery, this sounds a good bit like Sepultura did at the time, also with some influence from heavier Death Metal bands like Obituary or Asphyx—or rather, drawing on the same influences, since all those bands started around the same time. This is still a festival of ripping guitar riffs and leads set off by barbaric songwriting that splices Thrash propulsiveness with Death Metal violence. Incubus don't get talked about much anymore, but this album is just essential. |
